Almost four months had passed since the passing of the famous designer, Oscar de la Renta. The fashion world was mourning and recently we brought you news about the SCAD exhibit as it honored the late designer and his work. And yesterday it finally happened, the first de la Renta fashion show without the eponymous designer. New York Fashion Weekwas the place where the new brand’s designer, Peter Copping presented the collection for autumn/winter 2015.
It all happened yesterday night, Copping started off by leaving a letter on the seats of those in attendance, a nod to Nicolas Ghesquiere who did the same thing for his Louis Vuitton debut. Unfortunately, Copping did not have the chance to work with the famous designer before he passed away and that was something that Copping regretted. In his note he stated how he was proud of his position as the new creative director and who wouldn’t be, especially considering he was handpicked by de la Renta himself.
“Oscar is a designer that I really respected, and we share a lot in terms of aesthetic,” Copping told the reporters and it really showed on the catwalk. The show was obviously honored De la Renta’s legacy while bringing something new to the table, but in a very subtle way. Copping showcased the femininity for which the brand was well known for and he did well by reworking the De la Renta themes to introduce a bit of himself.
The front row seats were filled with familiar faces including Anette de la Renta, Anna Wintour, Taylor Swift and her new bestie, Karlie Klosswho we’ve been accustomed to see on the catwalk of the brand’s show. Nancy Kissinger also attended the show which showed just how important the show was for this season’s fashion week.
